Job Description
Reports to: Division Chief, Student Development, Preston Slayden

Duties and responsibilities
- Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and community members to create usable, equitable, inclusive and sustainable learning environments.
- Develop and recommend policies and procedures that promote inclusion and universal design in programs and facilities
- Maintain cooperative working relationships on campus and in the community
- Establish collaborative relationships by serving on campus committees such as DEAC, Academic Affairs and search committees, anticipating changes that may create or remove barriers, and advising the campus community as appropriate
- Serve on the Chancellor's Committee on the ADA : bringing forward campus-wide policy issues to be addressed, and soliciting requests for purchases that enhance accessibility on campus
- Serve on the Academic Adjustment Committee (a Faculty Senate committee)
- Recommend student participants for campus committees on which student representation is needed
- Coordinate ongoing efforts to have a fully accessible built environment
- Write grant proposals to receive funding for initiatives that support the creation of more usable, inclusive and sustainable learning environments
- Promote and facilitate awareness and access through training, advocacy and accommodations.
- Provide training and technical assistance to faculty, staff, administrators, and students
- Conduct application interviews and collaborate with students to determine appropriate accommodations
- Maintain student files and records by documenting communications with and regarding students, recording recommended course of action or accommodations, and collecting documentation provided by the student
- Oversee provision of auxiliary aids and services, including materials in alternate formats, interpreters, transcribers, lab assistants, adaptive technology, etc.
- Contribute to content for student e-newsletter and faculty/staff e-newsletter
- Conduct workshops and conference presentations
- Refer students for diagnostic testing and other appropriate services
- Coordinate ‘Retention Through Engagement' program for students with Asperger's
- Provide counseling and advocacy skills training
- Supervise full-time and part-time staff
- Hire, train, and supervise staff
- Provide appropriate professional development opportunities
- Follow institutional personnel policies
- Coordinate staff participation on campus-wide committees
- Manage departmental budget and oversee grant budgets through supervision of grant staff
- Supervise maintenance of spreadsheets reflecting all budget transactions
- Supervise reconciliation of program spreadsheets with Banner
- Oversee purchases and other expenditures
- Project future needs and submit budget requests
- Plan program goals and activities; evaluate program effectiveness; and writes reports.
- Develop, implement, and update a 5 year plan
- Work with staff and administrators to establish priorities
- Develop and implement assessment tools
- Write monthly and annual reports
- Assist Division Chief in achieving goals of the division through regular attendance of Student Development and Educational Student Services planning meetings and by responding to division- and section-level initiatives
- Act as community liaison
- Network with disability agencies and other community organizations providing services to students
- Provide technical assistance to other postsecondary institutions
- Perform other related duties as required
Minimum qualifications
- Master's degree in disability studies, social work, counseling, higher education, rehabilitation, special education, or related field
- Four years experience in the field, preferably in higher education
- Education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas
- Knowledge of universal design and social model of disability
- Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Budget management
- Supervision of staff
- Organizational skills
- Writing skills
- Communication skills, including public speaking
- Computer skills, including data base, spreadsheet, word processing, and desktop publishing

- Education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas
- Knowledge of web accessibility
- Knowledge of assistive technology for people with disabilities
- Experience in disability office in higher education
- Experience in policy development
